Dr. (Coach) Tommy Shavers is a USA Track & Field Level 1 Certified Coach and has over a decade of coaching and personal training experience. He has won 4 individual state championships in track & field, as well as numerous conference, district, and regional champions. Coach Shavers has also had the privilege of speed training high school, college football, and current/future NFL athletes, to prepare them for their playing season or their upcoming combine/pro days. Coach Shavers attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, where he played for head coach Mike Kruczeck, and defensive coordinator Gene Chizik (National Champion Head Coach for Auburn University) from 1998-2000. Coach Shavers was selected team captain during his 2000 season with the Knights. After his playing career, Coach Shavers served as an intern in athletic compliance at UCF and would later work in student services and in athletics as Life Skills Coordinator.
Coach Shavers is the president of Tommy Speak LLC., a speaking and consulting company which focuses on leadership, teamwork, communication, and personal development. He is a published author and contributing author to Linked2Leadership, one of the nation's top leadership blogs. He is a previous member of the National Speakers Association (NSA) and a member Delta Mu Delta National Business Honor Society. His area of expertise in leadership is the study of status and power's influence on athletes and other high profile individuals. Coach Shavers is also the creator of the Power Tolerance Theory™ a theory that states that there are levels of social status and power people can handle before it begins to negatively influence their behavior and performance. He is considered an expert in the area of behavior management and has been aguest expert on numerous radio shows as well as Fox News. Coach Shavers is also a former college professor having taught courses in communication, marketing, retail management, and public speaking.
As a coach and former athlete, Coach Shavers places a high value on education. Coach Shavers has earned a BA in Organizational Communication, MA in Interpersonal Communication, MA in Biblical Studies, and a Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership. Coach Shavers and his wife Tomica (Vice President of Vine Ripe Kids Home School Co-op) home school their three children.
